The Belgian Prosecutor’s office filed charges against five detainees in the case of match-fixing, corruption and money laundering. In the center of the scandal was the club second division “Mechelen”. According to investigators, two of them last season and tried to influence the outcome of several games this command to prevent the departure of the club from the first division.
“Four people are accused of links with organized crime and in receiving and giving bribery in the private sector. The fifth man has also been charged with money laundering,” – said the representative of Prosecutor’s office of the Wreath Roggen.
On Wednesday, Belgian police conducted a search of 44 across the country in a case of financial fraud and match-fixing. The searches took place in clubs Anderlecht, standard, Genk, “Mechelen”, “Bruges”. Among the detainees was the coach of “Bruges” Ivan Leko, a former General Manager of Anderlecht, Herman van Holsbeeck, as well as the judge and two football agents.
