Victory square is the center of Melitopol. There is much of all city events. There was an area in the 60-ies of the last century.
Until that time, there was a private sector Hetman street (former Lenin). In 1959, the Executive Committee headed by Chairman D. I. Bogdanov took the decision to build the city of the stairs (now the walk of Fame), about the same time appeared close to the Central town square. The house that stood here before it was demolished. Thus, street of Hetman was divided into unrelated segments.
In the documents of the new square was first mentioned on 9 September 1960 as “Central”. May 6, 1965, it was renamed Victory square.
