The school “rainbow”, located in the heart of Manhattan, always crowded, though, and working around the clock. Daily prepared here for the dumplings and for the year brewed nearly 20 thousand liters of soup! “Rainbow” is the oldest restaurant in the quarter. In 1954 it was opened by the Ukrainian emigrant Vladimir Darmochwal. First, he bought a newsagent and sweet shop, and six years later the room combined with a snack bar nearby. For visitors was prepared Ukrainian dishes and regaled them immigrants-Slavs, who lived nearby. So, from a small shop the facility has become a real center of Ukraine in new York.

The owner of the family business was son of Vladimir Darmochwal, husband of daughter Martha, American Tom Birchard, which deals with the restaurant since 1967.

In the kitchen there are Ukrainians, which is headed by chef Dmytro martsenyuk. In General, the staff consists of different nationalities: poles, Ukrainians, Americans.

“The main menu has not changed for decades. However, we are continually supplemented or updated traditional Ukrainian dishes the author’s ideas. For example, in recent years the most popular dish is varenyky with yalovicina ribs. This is my recipe of”, — says Mr. Dmitry.
