International music festival in Gabala was established in 2009 at the initiative of the rector of Baku Musical Academy Farhad Badalbeyli and conductor, cellist Dmitri Yablonski. Active the event is supported by the state Fund of Heydar Aliyev. Every summer in Azerbaijan attracts the best musicians, ensembles and orchestras from around the world. Initially, the festival was created as a classic, but over time its scope has expanded, with folk and chamber music, jazz and more.

In the anniversary programme this year was a lot of surprises. So, Cuban band Jóvenes Clásicos del Son brought a repertoire Dating back to the late 19th century – a real mix of music interspersed with Spanish and African elements.

The audience was fascinated by the virtuosity and unusual manner of performance of the Israeli band “Multipiano”: the musicians play in the four – six-eight hands on several pianos simultaneously. Technique, going back to the home concerts of the 19th century, was lost, and now efforts virtuosos revived and is again in fashion.

Separate and a big part of the festival program – Azerbaijani traditional music. Masters of mugham was presented to the audience the finest examples of this folk genre, combining music and vocal based on poetry. It is worth mentioning that mugham was recognized by UNESCO as a masterpiece of intangible culture of mankind.
