Powerful and big cars with eight-cylinder engines produced not only in America. The Soviet Union also did this technique, but only for the elites and intelligence agencies.
A forerunner in the creation of a large black car was the Factory Likhachev. In 1959, the company came to the conclusion that the life path model of ZIS-110 inline eight-cylinder engine came to an end and started the production of a new model limousine ZIL-111 with V-shaped “eight”.
It was a solid seven-seat car with a length of six meters. For the appearance of “one hundred eleven” answered the lion Yeremeyev, who made his creation in the spirit of a similar class of American cars. ZIL-111 was equipped with a V8 engine capacity of six litres and a power of 200 HP, which paired with an automatic transmission. The front of the car was independent coil-spring suspension, and rear leaf dependent. You can also note the presence of the electric Windows and power steering, and after a while the car got air conditioning.
“One hundred eleven” was produced until 1967, during this time, only 112 cars. And then his place was taken by the ZIL-114. This seven-seater superior size of its predecessor, its length was 6.3 meters, and under the hood of the colossus was a powerful seven-liter V8 engine, developing 300 HP Just before 1978 released 113.
By the way, on the basis of ZIL-114 the company has developed an interesting model – a sedan ZIL-117. This car was a shortened version of the model, intended for officials of an average hand, which status is not allowed to have in the garage a limo. But this model is relished and Leonid Brezhnev, who was known for his love of fast and powerful cars. While driving is “one hundred and seventeenth” Brezhnev sometimes left on the roads of Moscow. In technical terms, the differences between the models was not: a shortened variation got the same powerful motor and three-stage machine.
After leaving “one hundred and seventeenth” and all its variations to “retire”, ZIL introduced his new creation – the model with the index 4104. In fact, this car was a deep restyling of the previous model, the main innovation of the car was the V8 engine a displacement of 7.7 litres and a power of 315 HP, His life was shorter than its predecessors. The production model of the ZIL-4104 was curtailed in 1983, and then another within two years produced a modernized version of the ZIL-41045.
The only competitors of the automobile ZIL was GAZ. Large sedan, dubbed “the Seagull”, began to produce in Gorky in 1959. The car has a V8 engine capacity of 5.5 liters, giving out 195 HP and worked in tandem with three-speed automatic transmission.
In the free market “Gull”, of course, was not all released cars were sent to departmental garages and foreign embassies. But the car can be rented for the wedding. To do this, of course, was difficult because the demand significantly exceeded the number of machines: the main role in this issue played when the newlyweds.
GAZ-13 “Chaika” has become one of the most popular luxury cars. To the point of care “retirement” in 1981, was released more than three thousand cars.
To replace “thirteenth” model came GAZ-14, its production started in 1977. This car looks very different from its predecessor but under the hood was the old motor, although modernized. The power plant increased to 220 HP Naturally, the new “Seagull” has acquired the most modern equipment.
In the production of the model lasted until 1988. About mass character to speak of, as “the fourteenth” has released three times less than the “thirteenth” – about a thousand copies.
And for special services at the Gorky automobile plant made a “pumped” version of the “Volga” GAZ-21, which received index GAZ-23. Externally, the car did not differ, the difference was inside: “twenty-third” received a V8 engine, which gave out 195 HP and three-speed automatic box. This “catch-up” (as is popularly called machine intelligence) could accelerate to 160 km/h, and the first hundred on the speedometer the car was exchanged for 16 seconds. After the cessation of production of the model in 1970, the plant started making the sedan GAZ-24-24 with the same eight-cylinder engine.
