Lately, Ford is not often good news. However, this does not mean that the company does nothing. Only one presentation electric Ford Mustang Mach-e proves otherwise. But the brand is busy not only commercially viable projects. We often take the ability to see for granted thing, and difficult for us to imagine what it’s like to be blind.
Ford and GTB in Italy in cooperation with the local startup Aedo has introduced a technology “Feel The View” (feel view). The technology works by creating a vibration on the surface of the glass. In a specific area, this vibration can vary in the range of 255 values. These vibrations are felt by the hand, and a blind person is able to interpret them.
When the button is pressed, the device takes a snapshot of the landscape outside the window. This photo is the high contrast monochrome image converted to grayscale. Each shade of gray can be converted to a unique vibration of varying intensity on the surface of the car window.
This allows the visually impaired to “feel” the scenery, examining the details and depth by touch. And assistance in the development and management provides a built-in virtual assistant.
