Borussia Monchengladbach vs Hertha Berlin live stream, predictions & team news | Bundesliga

Borussia Monchengladbach will be looking to close the gap on the Bundesliga’s top four when they host Hertha Berlin on Saturday (2:30pm).

Marco Rose’s side are currently seventh in the table, three points behind fourth-placed Borussia Dortmund after 10 games, with four wins, four draws and two defeats. Their opponents, Hertha Berlin, are down in 12th but will be buoyed following last week’s win in the Berlin Derby, and could move to within just two points of Gladbach with a victory this weekend.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Hertha Berlin build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

Gladbach aren’t in great form at the moment, with just two wins in their past seven games, one coming against Shakhtar Donetsk and the other at home to the Bundesliga’s basement club Schalke. In that run, they have lost three games including in midweek against Real Madrid, a result that saw their Champions League last-16 hopes in doubt until Inter Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk’s game ended in a draw. With just four games to go until German football’s mini-break over the Christmas period, Gladbach will want to get a winning run going.

However, they face a Hertha side that will be fresh from their win over Union last Friday, with eight days between that game and Saturday’s match. The win was just Hertha’s third of the season but they appear to have moved on from the bad patch that saw them lose four consecutive games in September and October, dropping as low as 15th.

  • Borussia Monchengladbach (vs Real Madrid): Sommer; Lainer, Ginter, Elvedi, Wendt; Kramer, Neuhaus; Plea, Stindl, Thuram; Embolo.
  • Hertha Berlin (vs Union Berlin): Schwolow; Pekarik, Boyata, Torunarigha, Plattenhardt; Guendouzi, Stark, Tousart; Darida; Lukebakio, Cunha*.

Neither side has any fresh injury concerns going into Saturday’s game, but Hertha Berlin will be without Cunha, who is suspended after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season in last week’s Berlin Derby. He joins Santiago Ascacibar, Jhon Cordoba and Eduard Lowen on the sidelines for Hertha, while Gladbach are without Jonas Hofmann.

Player to watch: Krzysztof Piatek (Hertha Berlin)

With Cunha suspended, last week’s goalscoring hero Krzysztof Piatek is likely to start against Gladbach this weekend and will be hoping to kickstart a positive run in the side. Piatek’s excellent start to life in Serie A with Genoa seems a long time ago, but it has only been two years. In 21 appearances for Genoa he scored 19 goals but since, for AC Milan and Hertha Berlin he’s managed 24 in 67.

Eight of those 24 have come since he moved to Hertha in January, and he has started to re-find some form in Germany’s capital. In 10 games this season, he has scored three goals, including a brace against Union and is just one off equalling his tally from the second-half of 2019/20.
