The malaria drug hydroxychloroquine, which from the beginning of the pandemic used for the treatment of COVID-19 the risk of complications of cardiovascular diseases and increases mortality in patients with coronavirus. This conclusion was made by scientists analyzing the statistics of the treatment COVID-19 in different countries, according to the medical publication the Lancet.
In the course of the study, the data were analyzed for 96 thousands of patients of the 671 hospitals around the world. Of this amount, 14888 patients treated with the drug hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine, and 91144 cases did not receive these drugs were allocated to the control group. Many deaths in these groups of people started to have problems with a heart arrhythmia started.
“Thus, it is a multinational observational study of patients with COVID-19 requiring hospitalization, in the real world have shown that using a regimen containing hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine was associated with a lack of evidence of benefit, but instead was associated with an increased risk of ventricular arrhythmias and higher risk of in-hospital death COVID-19”, – stated in the conclusions of the researchers.
