Scientists from the Institute of archaeology at the historical Museum of Nanjing during the excavations of the ancient zahoroneniya made more than 2.5 thousand ago on the territory of Liyang city in Eastern Jiangsu province, discovered a ceramic vessel full of eggs.
According to the publication, first, archaeologists could not gather the courage to begin the study findings.
“We decided not to touch the eggs with such venerable age out of fear to break their fragile shell. The contents of the jug was investigated using x-ray machine, and it showed that all thousand-year eggs, but one whole, though the egg white and yolk in them long ago decomposed,” said a participant of the excavations of the Zhou Hanmin.
Items found in ancient graves were usually reflect religious beliefs or simply habits, who they buried.
“Open the tomb might be buried the one who fed at the table a weakness for eggs, and bequeathed to bury him with his favorite food. Our ancient ancestors believed that eggs give birth to new life, so the jug with them in the grave can also symbolize the continuity of life through many offspring,” involves Zhou Hanmin.
It should be noted that during the archaeological excavations of ancient tombs in China, scientists had previously found a chicken egg, but among them there was not one whole. Only once in 2015 in the South-Western Guizhou province, in the tomb, the scientists found an egg, carried about 2 thousand years ago. But, when touched with a brush, when archaeologists tried to clear his discovery of caked earth and other traces of thousands of years, it fell to pieces.
