El Super Clasico rivals Club America and Guadalajara will face off for a place in the Liga MX Torneo Guard1anes semi-finals at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday at 3:05 AM (UK time).
Chivas lead America 1-0 after the first leg thanks to Cristian Calderon’s 81st-minute strike, although America dominated for large periods of the 90 minutes and could easily have returned to Mexico City level or better.
Miguel Herrera’s men scored more goals (31) than any other team during the Liga MX regular season while they haven’t lost at home against their fierce rivals since August 2016, so the prospect of a second-leg turnaround is absolutely on the cards.
So, will Club America win Mexico’s biggest rivalry on home soil once again to reach the semi-finals? Or will Guadalajara get the result they need to send the old enemy crashing out?

Club America & Guadalajara’s previous line-ups:
- America (vs Chivas): Ochoa; Caceres, Aguilera, Fuentes; J. Sanchez, R. Sanchez, Caseres, Escoboza; Dos Santos, Martin, Reyes.
- Chivas (vs America): Gudino; Sanchez, Mier, Sepulveda, Ponce; Beltran, Molina; Brizuela, Angulo, Antuna; Zaldivar.
Nicolas Castillo and Bruno Valdez are out for America but Giovani dos Santos should start again after returning to the XI for the first leg.
Alexis Vega and Jose Macias were absent for the first leg with ankle and muscle injuries, respectively, and are not expected to return for Chivas here.
Player to watch: Henry Martin (Club America)
The eyes of the global audience for this game may be drawn to former Barcelona, Tottenham and LA Galaxy man Giovani dos Santos, but another of America’s chief attacking threats is undoubtedly Henry Martin.
The eight-time Mexico international was America and Liga MX’s highest scorer during the regular season with seven goals, also notching an assist for good measure, and Herrera will be looking for a big performance from his star striker as America seek to overturn their first-leg deficit.
The main issue with Martin right now is his record of just two goals in his last 10 appearances for club and country, a serious drop off in productivity when compared with the six goals he scored in 10 games to open the campaign.
That said, Martin has scored twice against Chivas in the past while he has only tasted defeat on two of the 11 occasions he’s faced the Guadalajara-based side.
It’s time for the 28-year-old to pull off the shackles and show his true form when it really matters.
Scoreline prediction: Club America 2-0 Guadalajara
