Coronavirus “extended life” older versions of Windows

In mid-October of 2017, Microsoft introduced one of the largest updates to the Windows 10 Update Fall Creator. He brought a number of design changes and new Fluent UI Design System. Soon, the support for legacy OS versions had to end, but the pandemic coronavirus has made adjustments to the plans of Microsoft.

The discontinuation of future updates for Windows 10 build number 1709 was scheduled for April 14, 2020. But now Microsoft has officially announced that the system utility Configuration Manager will continue to provide updates for the specified Assembly until October 13 2020.

We assess the situation in public health and understand the impact it has on us and our valued customers. To facilitate one of the many problems that users currently face, and on the basis of multiple customer feedback, we have decided to postpone the scheduled end date of service
– said representatives of Microsoft.

Windows Oct 1709 Fall Creator Update was the beginning of the concept of a Fluent Design System based on five components: the light, depth, motion, material and scale.

This system was the most radical update in terms of interface changes, when Microsoft first decided to abandon the Metro UI and added to the system more than 50 new features and fixes.
