Ukraine celebrates today the Day of the rescuer – the professional holiday of firefighters, soldiers, civil defence and members of the municipal emergency services. These brave people come to the rescue in the most difficult situations and at great personal risk, saves the lives of thousands of people.
The correspondent of “Duma” visited the Longeron as the guest of Yuri Miroshnikov, which is responsible for rescuing people in the water around the coastal area of the city. Here is his story.
In 1969, Yuri Mikhailovich called upon the Navy. Service, he took on the Kamchatka Peninsula, where he mastered military specialty of combat swimmer. This determined his fate. In 1972, the soldier was discharged. Back in Ukraine, he began working in the state Inspectorate for small vessels, after some time became the Registrar of boats. Then I taught the navigators. Retired, but a long time without work and the sea could not. 1 December 2015, a former wrestler with the saboteurs went to work in the Odesa municipal institution “Rescue diving service”. He entrusted the station of divers-rescuers of the Primorsky district of Odessa.
“I live and work, do not like to talk about some achievements – says the lifeguard. I know the sea, know the entire technical small fleet. Despite the fact that I work as a supervisor, go out to sea in any weather”.
In the summer a lifeguard service operates from 6 am to 20:00.
“For me, this schedule does not apply. I’m here constantly, for five months almost without a break. If there is an emergency in the night, go out to sea,” – said Yuri Miroshnikov.
Rescue posts scattered around the coast. They communicate with each other by radio. On the towers are the so-called sirens, whose task is to detect a problem on the water and report to the head of the post, which you want to define the outfit of forces and means for search and rescue person. And to do it in seconds: a drowning man won’t wait forever. It is important that the system itself worked without a hitch. Between the detection signal, decision and action must pass a minimum of time. And it all depends on training people and organizational skills of their chef.
As a rule, the towers are new recruits to the end of the season gain experience and become a good lifeguard. Many return to work the next year. The salary for the newcomer starts at 9 thousand hryvnias, and experienced employees receive more than 12 thousand.
The rescuer simply must be able to swim and dive, be in excellent physical shape, which allows you to hold your breath more than the average person. Yury Mikhailovich underwater spent thousands of hours – he says it quietly, without pathos and bluster.
Even rescuers are taught to work on special techniques – scooters and boats. These floating car is needed to get to the beach “dalnoboev”. So called people, who contrary to the rules and common sense swim out beyond the breakwater.
On duty in the towers “guards” is to identify such “brave”, and when it comes out or it will put out to sea, to warn the rest of the squad. As soon as the swimmer will be removed from the breakwater about 20 meters behind him starts to “hunt” scooter.
The work is hard – 14 hours straight in the heat. Rescuers, as a rule, take with food to post because of the ability to go on your lunch break is almost there.
In every city district has its own statistics of salvation. This season, the team of Yuri Mikhailovich was rescued more than two hundred people. According to the chief, in the service of various there are cases, and unfortunately not without tragedy. Recently in the area of responsibility of the station drowned a boy of seven. Our source claims that the rescuers were powerless.
“The sister was drunk, and when enough that the boy was gone, sent rescue workers to the side of the slopes. Insisted that he had run away. Searched for the child even in the area of the Dolphinarium. And only after two hours of searching, the woman suggested that the baby could drown. We do not remove the responsibility from themselves, but we believe that unfortunately resulted primarily irresponsible women,” says the lifeguard.
Another accident occurred on August 11, but after the end of the work shifts of the rescuers. 32-the summer man was lost at sea. Bolo. At 21:15 Yuri went on a boat in the sea:
“Searched for him under water and not found. In the morning was found already dead. The guy was a so-called freediving, diving without scuba gear. The water was 11 degrees, despite the heat, the course has changed. He apparently didn’t know and decided to dive. And that’s the bottom line…”.
In 2016, the squad Miroshnikov one hour saved 48 people, and this happened at one site in the center of Langeron. Then was the strongest storm in the port has included a siren, but tourists are not alarmed.
Funny work also happens, says Mr. George: “Just left the mooring in front of the South and found a man and a woman. Kept on the surface of the water. Live. Brought to shore. It seemed that life was under threat, and they’ve continued to swear, to sort things out. Another man was caught for two and a half kilometers from the shore. Turned out to be crazy. Said saboteur.
Last year four ladies and drunk men stole a marine bike from the pier. Boarded, swam 150-200 meters and began to sink. It turned out that the bike was unscrewed the tube. I approached him on a scooter and asked: “to Escape you?”. Pulled ashore, giving him tea. Here such history”.
Yuri says that people are not fined for “exploits” on the water, but rescuers had already figured out how to influence the careless swimmers. Yet this invention is not used, but think about to start shaming “heroes” and share their photos online.
And by the way, they seldom hear words of gratitude.
“Rare “thank you” I say. Most often back to ask where the Slippers or the hat. This upbringing, I think. We are not educated people. But we don’t need gratitude. We’re here. I can’t live without their profession. My motivation is simple: I may be in a life with little sin, but I want to have these sins washed away. As they say, if people saved a man’s life, he saved the world”, – said Yuri Miroshnikov.
