The international day of remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust marked on 27 January, on this day in 1945 soldiers of the 1st Ukrainian front of the Soviet Army liberated prisoners of the largest Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Auschwitz.
This is one of the largest concentration camps of the Second world war. The camp consisted of a network of 48 locations that were subordinate to Auschwitz. In Auschwitz sent the first political prisoners in 1940.
And since 1942, there began the mass extermination of Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, and those whom the Nazis considered “dirty people.” During the day there could have killed about 20 thousand people.
The main method of killing was the gas chambers, but also people are massively dying from overwork, malnutrition, poor living conditions and infectious diseases.
One of the worst camps of the Nazis. Most of the camps from the beginning built not really for torture and extermination. However, Treblinka was the so-called “death camp” – it was designed specifically for killing.
There from all over the country sent the weak and infirm, and women and children, a “second-rate” who were not able to work hard.
In 1940 the Nazis established this camp only for Roma, but in 1942 there began a mass killing of Jews. Subsequently there tortured the poles, who opposed the Nazi regime of Hitler.
Jews in Belzec were used as slaves for the preparation for a military invasion to the Soviet Union. The camp was situated on the territory near the border with Ukraine, so in prison he killed a lot of Ukrainians who lived in the area.
This concentration camp was built for prisoners of war during the German invasion in the USSR. Prisoners were used as cheap labour and deliberately did not kill anyone.
But then the camp is to “reformat” – there has begun to send all. The number of prisoners increased as the Nazis simply could not cope with all. Began progressive and massive destruction.
In this camp, except the Jews, and mass ordinary poles were deported from the ghetto Lodz, continuing the process of Germanization of Poland. The prison did not go train, so prisoners were brought there on trucks or they were forced to walk. Many died on the way.
In addition to mass murder in the “death camp” was also conducted medical experiments, in particular the testing of chemical weapons.
This camp was built in 1942 as an additional building for the camp of Belzec. In Sobibor at first and kept killing only Jews who were deported from the Lublin ghetto.
In Sobibor experienced the first gas chamber. And first started to distribute people into “suitable” and “unsuitable”. The latter was immediately killed, others were working to total exhaustion.
In 1943 the camp was a riot, during which ran about about 50 prisoners. All who stayed died, and the camp was soon destroyed.
The camp was built near Munich in 1933. First to send all opponents of the Nazi regime and ordinary prisoners.
However, later in the prison got everything: there were even Soviet officers, who were waiting for execution.
The Jews there began to send in 1940. In order to collect more people in southern Germany and Austria it was built about 100 other camps that were controlled by Dachau. That is why this camp is the greatest.
After the war these camps were used as temporary housing for displaced Germans.
This was the first camp where the mass killing of people and the last which was liberated from the Nazis.
Unlike many other concentration camps, which were intended for all segments of the population, in Mauthausen only exterminated the intelligentsia – educated people and members of high social classes in the occupied countries.
The camp in Germany was built as a prison for prisoners of war. It contained about 95 thousand foreign prisoners.
The Jews were there too – their bartered for some outstanding German prisoners. Therefore, it is obvious that this camp was not meant for extermination. Specifically they did not kill anyone and was not tortured.
However, due to the lack of food and medicines, and unsanitary conditions, many died in the camp due to starvation and disease. After the liberation of the prison found there about 13 thousand corpses that are just lying everywhere.
It was the first camp that was liberated during the Second world war. Although this is not surprising, because from the very beginning, this prison was created for the Communists.
In a concentration camp also expelled masons, Gypsies, homosexuals and common criminals. All prisoners were used as free labor for the production of weapons. However, later it began to conduct various medical experiments on prisoners.
In 1944, the camp came under fire from Soviet aircraft. Then killed about 400 prisoners, and about two thousand were injured.
