Wednesday, 8 August 2018, on 87-m to year of life died one of the oldest Ukrainian freestyle wrestling, bronze medalist of the Olympic games in 1956 in Melbourne Mikhail Shakhov.

It is worth noting that Mikhail Shakhov was born on 20 November 1931 in Saratov. In Kiev came in 1951, when passed military service. After that remained in the capital of Ukraine and began to wrestle. Although he began as a wrestler. And became the USSR champion in this sport. But later moved to free-style wrestling, where he won the title in the USSR. And later the bronze medal at the Olympic games in 1956 in Melbourne. He was also the bronze medalist of the world championship 1958. At the Olympics in Rome 1960, took fourth place. Acted in a weight category to 57 kg.
After his career he coached the national team of Poland, and then worked as a coach and teacher at Kiev University of physical culture and sports. Mikhail Shakhov was one of the originators of wrestling cards of Ukraine – Kiev International tournament.
