Asynchronous work on the administrative-territorial reform and the Electoral code will result in difficulties with the local elections, said the CEC.
Local elections in the autumn can be difficult, as Ukraine has not completed the administrative-territorial reform. On Wednesday, July 15, reported the press service of the Central election Commission.
“The draft resolution on the establishment and liquidation of districts actually provides a considerable enlargement of areas that will greatly affect the implementation of individual electoral procedures in the organization of preparation and conduct of local elections”, – stated in the message.
In this case, if the decision on creation of new districts will not be accepted, need to amend electoral legislation because at the moment individual a new community belong to different areas, leading to uncertainty with the formation of districts, the organization of voting, establishing the results and the results of the voting in such communities and districts.
Also, the CEC noted that in the event of late adoption of the draft law on improvement of the Electoral code will be possible to complete the preparations for the local elections on 25 October, because nominations for the formation of territorial election commissions will run from 26 July to 5 August.
“Given the above, we urge the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as soon as possible to resolve issues and create high-quality legislative framework for the preparation and holding in Ukraine local elections on 25 October 2020,” – said in the Commission.
