Company SpaceX started to develop a new super-heavy rocket, consists of the first stage Super Heavy vehicle and Starship. The company hopes to launch its test Starhopper ship in the sky in the near future.
A short test that will hold on a launch pad at the SpaceX Boca Chica, Texas, will allow the missile to climb to a height to 500 meters, to fly at low altitudes?? at a height of 5 000 meters for testing high-altitude flights. This is stated in the amended application filed with the Federal communications Commission. Heights are consistent with those the company indicated in the same request last year, according to Tech Informant.
Starhopper is a basic version of the ship Starship large passenger rocket, which SpaceX wants to create to send people to the moon and Mars. To prepare for the flight of the first ship into space, SpaceX has built a test ship Starhopper in Boca Chica. The vehicle has a structure similar to the final rocket, though a bit smaller in size. The most important task Starhopper is to test the new Raptor’s powerful engines developed by SpaceX for the future of long-distance missiles.
In April, SpaceX launched the Raptor engine on the Starhopper vehicle. The rocket rose only a few centimeters, as she was tied to the land. But now, SpaceX plans to perform the so-called “hopping” tests with the vehicle (hence the nickname Starhopper), which will send a missile at a small height above the Ground. Then the company will try to land Starhopper back to Earth with three landing legs of the vehicle. The idea is to test the possibility of landing that rocket is going to use to land on the Earth and other planets. SpaceX conducted a similar test on the ship, known as Grasshopper in 2012 and 2013 to test the technique of planting, which is now being used of the Falcon 9 rocket.
In the first tests to Starhopper had been connected to only one engine Raptor, but SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has indicated that, in the end, the rocket will install three engine. At the moment, photos of the vehicle show that Starhopper in Boca Chica engines not yet attached, but it is expected that they will soon.

Cameron County, which is Boca Chica, announced the closure of the road around the launch pad on may 28, indicating that the flights could be held in a week. However, the first tests of the engine were held a few weeks after the first announcement, so, perhaps, the test flight will take place as soon as we would like. However, Elon Musk on the social network Twitter said that “hopes that the test will take place in the next 10 days”
Hopefully in about 10 days
