The European Union strongly condemns the escalation of violence in Donbas and calls on Russia to support its armed forces complied with the cease-fire.
This is stated in the statement of the European Union delivered during the session of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna on Thursday, 27 February, reports the correspondent of UKRINFORM.
“We strongly condemn this?? armed escalation and attempts to attack, because they demonstrate a lack of commitment to the implementation of the Minsk agreements and measures agreed at the “Normandy summit” in December. We call on the parties to comply fully with its confirmed obligations. In particular, we urge Russia to use its influence on armed groups it supports, to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire”, – stated in the EU over the military escalation in the Golden on 18 February.
The EU also stressed the need for the conscientious fulfilment of obligations under the Minsk agreements, including taken at the summit of the Normandy Quartet on December 9.
“Compliance with prior agreements is a prerequisite for building confidence and further steps. In this context, the EU appreciates the constructive approach of Ukraine and urges Russia to act the same,” – said in a statement.
The EU stressed that the conflict in Eastern Ukraine and the illegal annexation of the Crimean Peninsula “remains a bleeding wound on the European continent with a large number of human victims that is growing each week.”
“Urgent need to put an end to this conflict is obvious. In this context, we stress the importance of this conflict remained at the centre of attention of the international community, particularly the UN, as it was last week in new York. The European Union reaffirms its full support for international diplomatic efforts within the Normandy process, and the Tripartite liaison group”, – said in a statement.
