Kazakhstani boxer Gennady Golovkin has approved a contract to fight for the vacant title of world champion under version IBF Middleweight title. Golovkin needs to fight against Ukrainian Sergey Derevyanchenko.
This was reported in his Twitter insider Mike Coppinger with the Athletic.
He confirmed that the fight will take place on October 5 at Madison Square Garden in new York (USA). In the U.S. the fight will be broadcast streaming company DAZN.
According to the source, a team of Ukrainian Manager Keith Connolly and adviser al Haymon the contract was not yet signed.
Derevyanchenko has become a mandatory Challenger for a world title fight in April, winning by decision of judges Jack Kulka. After that, he climbed to first place in the IBF ranking.
Mexican Saul Alvarez, who owned the IBF belt, could not agree on the fight with the Ukrainian, and therefore lost the title. Thus, the IBF belt was vacated and compete for a chance Derevyanchenko and Golovkin.
Sergei wants to get at least 5.5 million dollars for the fight against Golovkin. Derevyanchenko had not earned in battle more than 500 thousand dollars. Therefore, its likely fight for the IBF title will bring Sergei to the biggest earnings.
