Finland and Estonia have launched a common pipeline

Финляндия и Эстония запустили общий газопровод

At the ceremony in Paldiski and Helsinki on Wednesday opened the Estonian-Finnish gas pipeline Balticconnector General.

Gas the message was opened by the President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid and President of Finland Sauli of Niinisto, writes “Mirror of Week”.

“The length of the underwater part of the Balticconnector from Paldiski to Finnish Inko is 77 km away, the Ground part is 55 km in Estonia and 21 km in Finland. The gas will be transported between Finland, Estonia and Latvia without additional costs”, – stated in the message.

After the completion of the gas connectors between Lithuania and Poland local gas market will no longer depend on supplies of Russian Gazprom.

“When we started to open up the market, the price of gas was 40 euros and we paid Gazprom for about 10 euros above the price level in Western Europe. Today the gas price is about 15 euros and we can buy gas at the same price, and in Western Europe. And that is why we have developed gas markets and infrastructure to create a regional gas market open to competition from many market players,” explained Chairman of the management Board of an Estonian company Elering Taam Veskimagi.

The total cost of the project based on the work of strengthening the pipeline between Estonia and Latvia will be about 300 million euros, of which more than 200 million euros in the project puts EU.

We recall that Poland and Slovakia are also planning to build a pipeline that will diversify the sources of gas for the entire region of Central and Eastern Europe.
