Ukraine, Netherlands, Belgium, Malaysia and Australia, who are members of the Joint investigation team on the downed flight MH17, has officially notified the UN Secretary General and the President of the UN security Council about the beginning of the March 9 trial in the Netherlands in this case. This was stated by the representative of the Permanent mission of Ukraine to the UN Oleg Nikolenko.
“Five States, including Ukraine, the Netherlands, Belgium, Malaysia and Australia reported to the Chairman of the UN Security Council and UN Secretary-General in a joint letter about the start of the trial in the Netherlands in the downed plane MH17,” – said the Ukrainian diplomat.
He also provided a copy of the document sent to the UN Secretary General and the President of the Security Council.
“The start of a criminal trial March 9, 2020 is an important milestone to establish the truth and achieve justice for the victims of flight MH17 and their relatives, and prosecute those responsible for the downed plane MH17”, – is spoken in the official letter.
As noted in the document, Australia, Belgium, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Ukraine have full confidence that the judicial process “will contribute to the achievement of justice in accordance with the highest international legal standards of professionalism and independence”. In this case recalled that the Security Council’s resolution 2166 that requires that all responsible for the destruction of civil aircraft are held accountable.
