Ford has published the first photos of a prototype Mustang coupe, whose engine is mounted behind the cabin. Pictures found in the archives five years ago, but the history of the machine is not found out till now. Therefore the automaker asked everyone who knows something about this project, to share information about it.
The former head of the Ford archives, Dean Weber was able to learn only that the photos were taken on may 2, 1966 in the design Studio of the concern in Dearborn. Gail Halderman, lead designer of the original Mustang, and Roy Lunn, one of the founders of the GT40, have said they’ve never heard of this prototype. However, they believe that the mysterious car has no relationship to the concept mid-engined Ford Mustang Mach 2, 1967.
According to one version, the pictures show one of the earlier versions of the concept Mustang. On the other – it’s a completely different project and a prototype has nothing to do with the Mustang.
He could only be the experiment of the designers after the release of information that Chevrolet is working on a mid-engine version of the model Corvette.
Tired of fruitless searches, Ford has asked for all enthusiasts model Mustang with a request to share information about the mysterious prototype. Your information can be sent to ClubHub@Ford.com. Informants are promised prizes, but what is unknown.
