The overseas private investment Corporation OPIC assessed the progress of construction of the Centralized storage of spent nuclear fuel in the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl NPP and was pleased with the results of the inspection. About it reported in a press-service NAEK “Energoatom”.

The audit was conducted to monitor implementation by Ukraine of agreements on attraction of USD 250 million. and funding for the construction in Ukraine of a Centralized repository for spent nuclear fuel (facility) between NNEGC “Energoatom” Central Storage and Safety Project Trust and the guarantee agreement concluded between the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the overseas private investment Corporation (OPIC) and Central Storage Safety Project Trust. During a three-day working visit on June 4-6, 2019 American delegation visited the construction site of the facility in the exclusion zone of Chernobyl NPP and discussed with representatives of NNEGC “Energoatom” Central Storage and Safety Project Trust issues: compliance with the implementation schedule of the project; the project management processes, including managing contracts and subcontracts; quality of construction; condition of the approval of the relevant regulatory framework at the level of the government of Ukraine; status of operational testing of the Holtec equipment at nuclear facilities of Ukraine.
We will remind, on December 21, 2017 the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, NNEGC “Energoatom”, OPIC and Central Storage Safety Project Trust had signed the agreement concerning the attraction of 250 million dollars. for the construction of Centralized repository for spent nuclear fuel. February 14, 2018 in Washington, DC hosted a ceremony with the participation of the President and CEO of OPIC ray Osborne, during which the President of NNEGC “Energoatom” Yuriy Nedashkovsky and “Bank of America/Merrill Lynch”, as the organizer of placing of bonds in the capital market of the United States, approved the final terms of financing the construction in Ukraine, a facility in the amount of $ 250 million.
