Former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi died in the court room

According to the portal “al-Ahram”, he died during the next court session. According to preliminary data, Morsi died from acute heart failure. Other details are not yet known.

Morsi was 67 years old. BBC News reports that he became ill after the meeting at which he was charged with espionage.

He was elected President in 2012. Morsi became the first head of state after the revolution, which resulted in the resignation of Hosni Mubarak, who has served as President since 1981.

A year after the election of Morsi was removed from power in a military coup that followed mass protests.

Morsi was a supporter of the organization “Muslim brotherhood”. After the ouster of him and his supporters was accused of attempted arson of the prison where he was under arrest for participating in demonstrations before the overthrow of Mubarak, cooperation with the Palestinian movement “Hamas” and in the riots at the presidential Palace in late 2012.

In 2015, the court sentenced Morsi to death, but later changed the sentence to life imprisonment.
