Georgia in 2019 will issue with a new US Memorandum of cooperation on the basis of which you plan on obtaining a five-year framework agreement on cooperation in the sphere of defense and security. It is reported by UNN citing Georgia online.
The details of the Memorandum, said the Minister of defence of Georgia Levan Izoria after a meeting in the framework of the Munich security conference with acting head of the Pentagon Patrick Hanahana.
At the meeting the Georgian delegation was headed by the Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze.
According to Izoria, the meeting discussed issues of expansion and deepening of Georgian-American cooperation, including in the direction of Georgia’s accession to NATO.
“The new Memorandum will be significant emphasis on how we should strengthen the security of our country with new approaches, procurement of new technologies”, – he said.
According to him, the document will be focused on the issue of the security of Black sea region.
For its part, the press service of the Pentagon reported that P. Shanahan assured the Georgian side in Washington’s support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia.
“The leaders discussed a wide range of issues related to defense, including the Russian occupation of Georgian territory, the topic of security in the Black sea and the progress in defence reform”, – stated in the message of press-service.
The parties also agreed to continue cooperation in the field of security in order to enhance the combat readiness of Georgian troops.
