Germany, whose government supports the Nord Stream project 2, must ensure that Ukraine retained its status of a transit country for Russian natural gas.
This was discussed at the conference “20 years German-Ukrainian forum. Relations between Ukraine and Germany. Dialogue about politics and the economy “, which took place in Berlin on 29 June, reports the correspondent of UKRINFORM.
“The Federal government undertakes to see that in the implementation of Nord Stream 2 were taken into account the interests of Ukraine. We will continue to firmly hold this position, ” said parliamentary state Secretary to the Federal Minister of economy and energy Marco Wanderwitz.
He acknowledged that the topic of the Nord Stream 2 is “difficult”. It is assured that the Nord Stream 2, which from the point of view of the German government is an entrepreneurial project that must, of course, conform to national, European and international standards.
Vanderveer reminded that Berlin has appointed spacepainting German government on the Russian-Ukrainian gas dispute, which is actively followed and supported tripartite negotiations between Ukraine, EU and Russia. This made it possible to reach agreement between Gazprom and Naftogaz at least for the next 5 years.
“Berlin wants to make a contribution to ensuring that this agreement is executed by both parties”, – said the politician.
The Chairman of the Board of German-Ukrainian forum, the organizer of the conference Rainer Lindner, in turn, also stressed the importance that Ukraine remains a transit country for gas. He expressed hope that the presidency of Germany in EU Council in the second half of this year, various international formats, as well as bilateral consultations with American partners is committed to ensuring that a solution acceptable to all.
“Now it is an open question, a conflict, which is approaching” he stated, referring to, including the American sanctions against the pipeline.
At the same time, Lindner drew attention to the aspect of the possible involvement of German business in modernization of the Ukrainian GTS that was said 10 years ago, without regard to the subject of Nord Stream 2.
“German business should be more actively think about how it can support this network, to upgrade it, because she needs it. How can we ensure the security of the system, but also the transit status of Ukraine “, – said the Chairman of the Board of German-Ukrainian forum.
As reported, the U.S. House of representatives was a bill to expand sanctions against the Nord Stream pipeline 2.
It is noted that the adoption of this bill is designed to prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin to prevent the European allies hostage after completion of construction of the Nord Stream pipeline 2.
As earlier reported, a bipartisan group of senators in the U.S. Congress introduced a bill that proposes new sanctions against the Russian Nord Stream pipeline 2.
Currently working on the construction of “Nord stream-2” is suspended due to U.S. sanctions against European contractors, which came into force in December 2019. The sanctions include a ban on entry into the United States for representatives of these companies, as well as freezing any assets in the country.
To complete the construction of the pipeline Russia can now only yourself, because international partners refused to continue work on laying the pipes with the introduction of previous U.S. sanctions.
Moscow has announced its intention to build the pipeline before the end of this year.
The construction of the pipeline “Nord stream-2” for gas supplies to Europe bypassing Ukraine was carried out by the Russian Gazprom together with the European Engie, Uniper, OMV, Shell and Wintershall.
Ukraine opposes the construction of this pipeline. Russian opponents of the pipeline are also USA, Poland and the Baltic States.
Previously it was assumed that “Nord stream-2” will be launched before the end of 2019.
