Google will publish the location data of its users worldwide. It is reported by the Informant Tech, citing a Google blog.

Reports on the movements of the users in 131 countries will be available on a special web site and will “display the trend of displacement with time geography”. These reports will reflect “increases or decreases the percentage of visits” to places such as parks, shops, homes and places of work, and not “the absolute number of visits”. That is, the company will not disclose the exact number of users that visit parks, and their increase or decrease in percentage. “We hope these reports will help to resist пандемииCOVID-19” – said at Google.
As in the case of detecting congestion or to measure traffic in Google Maps, the new reports will use the “aggregated, anonymous” data from users who have activated their location history. “This information can help officials understand changes in the normal rhythm of the movements of people on the basis of which they will be able to form recommendations on working hours” – said the head of Google Maps Jen Fitzpatrick. The company assured that no personal information such as location, contacts, or move, will not get shared. The reports also will be used statistical method, which adds “artificial noise” to the raw data, making it difficult to identify users.
