The U.S. plans to conclude with Russia a new agreement to replace the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty) should be treated critically. This statement was made by the former President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev in his book “What’s at stake: the future of the world”.
“The US President said the United States hopes to sign a new, “good” agreement. What is the contract on building weapons? I think that’s a promise no one should be fooled,” wrote Gorbachev in his book, which was read to RIA Novosti.
According to the former President, with the U.S. withdrawal from the INF Treaty is the desire of the States to absolute military superiority and “impatient desire to be free from any restrictions in the field of armaments”.
He also called the U.S. decision on withdrawal from the INF Treaty “a major blow to the General security”.
Earlier, Mikhail Gorbachev criticized the United States for declaring themselves winners in the cold war.
