The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill received the title of honorary Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).

The press-Secretary of the Academy of Sciences Svetlana Popova said Kirill participated in the filming of popular science programs, and also knew Peter Kapitsa won the Nobel prize in physics in 1978.

He is a great popularizer of science. As Einstein said, the theory of relativity attests to the genius of the Creator, so in this sense there are no contradictions,

she said.

Popov also reported that on January 22 the meeting of the Presidium of RAS will be held the ceremony of awarding of the corresponding diploma Cyril.

However, later the press service of the Academy of Sciences stated that it will award this diploma to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church “in another time”, and also noted that awarding the title of Professor Kirill still needs to vote on the members of the Presidium.

Note that the head of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill already has the title of honorary Professor of National research nuclear University MEPhI.
