Today in Athens, the Ministers of energy of Greece, Israel and Cyprus signed an agreement on the construction of the pipeline EastMed Pipeline running along the bottom of the Mediterranean sea.
“The Eastern Mediterranean gas pipeline with a length of about 1.9 thousand kilometers is designed to supply fuel from the Israeli and Cypriot deposits in the Eastern Mediterranean to Greece via Crete. The project is worth 6 to 7 billion dollars is planned to be completed by 2025, its power should reach 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year. With EastMed Europe wants to diversify its energy resources”, – stated in the message.
Against the construction of the pipe is Turkey believes that the pipeline is not necessary, as there is the TRANS-Anatolian pipeline (TANAP), according to which the gas from Azerbaijan to Greece via Turkey and Georgia.
Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis, President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the new pipe will not turn against the interests of any country.
