The sports car came to light thanks to Sergey Maksimenko. He lives in Smolensk and love of cars carefully carries through life. At the age of nine became interested in karting and showed good results, taking part in the Championships of the Soviet Union. Of course, he looked to the side “adult” car, but they are performing professionally, he never had. Over time, sweet memories became and the fascination with go-karting…
After returning from the army, it was not until the sport, the times in this country has been difficult. But as they say, from destiny will not leave. And soon Sergei Maksimenkov was again in the automotive world: together with friends he opened a tire.
And then there was the idea of a bright and recognizable advertising – to put on the roof of any car. And visible from afar, and recognizable. Managed to find ZAZ-965, the one which is popularly nicknamed “Brokeback”. The car was in terrible condition and was not on the go, however drive she didn’t have to. Sergey together with his colleagues brought the car to his garage, took up the restoration of Antiques and… got carried away.
“Zaporozhets” had lost its roof and turned into a convertible and got a new, much more powerful engine from “Skoda”. And the icing on the cake become cool BBS wheels from BMW. When the work was completed, motorists will understand that it is impossible such a beauty to put on the roof and began to ride on a camel around the city. The car, like its founders, quickly became famous all over the Smolensk. Began phone calls with requests to sell a unique car. But they were unable to give offspring in the wrong hands, instead suggesting the creation of exactly the same. And from that day began to work on the orders.
“I blinded him from what was”
After meeting with Dmitry Parfenov, from the Soviet era known for its homemade cars, jobs went to a new level. In those years, Parfenov worked as a designer for the St. Petersburg company “Autocad”, and the firm became maksimenkova the Smolensk branch of “autocad”.
In 2000 Sergei Maksimenkov decided to upgrade the “Laura” one of a homemade car, built by the project Parfenov. First it was supposed to replace the current 2.8-liter to a more powerful, but over time it became clear that the need to redo everything.
Major donor “Laura” became sedan Audi A8 – he borrowed and part of the body, and the engine volume 4.2 liters and output of 350 “horses”. Also “Audi” shared gearbox and suspension. However, the rear suspension had to redo (the motor placed in the rear) but the front subframe did not touch. Unification with the “Audi” has allowed to avoid serious problems with spare parts.
From BMW of the sixth series “Laura” got tail lights and running lights and turn signals took the Porsche 911. Headlights looked after the Peugeot 508, but they had to upgrade. As for body panels, they are mostly made of fiberglass.
Sergei himself worked on the creation of the body and installing the engine, his colleague and friend Sergei Scrob was responsible for electronics. When the work was finished, the designers themselves were surprised that they all turned out. After all, the problems were everywhere. For example, with electronics: one unit will shut off, the car “dies”, even the air conditioning at first, did not work painlessly cut from the system. But through trial and error, Scrob was able to tame the German electronics.
And because of the many problems work on the project lasted five years. To objectively assess the final cost of the machine is very problematic, but when you consider just parts, you get a million rubles. In the garage, “Laura” is almost tight up against the floor, but before leaving, air suspension lifts the car. Although the roads in Smolensk is not particularly suitable for a sports car, so speed high-speed high here just anywhere.
Registration was no problem – documents “Laura” is a homemade vehicle. Now a sports car with a mileage of 100 000 kilometers sold for five million rubles. Sergey lit a new project, need funds for its realization.
