How and from whom the Nazis trained concentration camp guards

Как и из кого нацисты готовили надзирательниц концлагерей

The SS was an organization that dealt in Nazi Germany and in the occupied territories of terror and the extermination of people based on ethnicity and political views. To maintain this structure were numerous concentration camps and women to serve in it had no right.

However, among the Nazi executioners were many of the fairer sex, who were enrolled in auxiliary units of the SS. Called “entourage SS” these ladies could choose two intended for them the direction – SS-helferin or SS-craigshelper.

The first category were those who helped the army in the service of communication, that is, there were telephone operators, operators, typesetters, telephone operators. The second group was formed by inhuman guards of the concentration camps and the medical staff put unethical experiments on prisoners.

The first matron.

The standards of the German secret service men could only deal with the external security of the camp and to follow the discipline inside could only women guards, and only in their company there was held the physicians, the commandant and officers of the various services belonging to a strong floor.

Acute need for female guards to work in the concentration camps appeared in 1937, because at that time the concentration camp Lichtenburg, which included homosexuals, Gypsies and Communists, was converted into a place of detention exclusively for women sectants, lesbians and socially dangerous individuals.

Initially recruiting for the position of an employee of the subsidiary units of the SS were carried out on a voluntary basis. To do this, in the Newspapers, signed by the employment service published the advertisement on recruitment for a light guard activities not requiring special skills and only indirectly associated with physical activity.

Subsequently, the need for female staff was reduced, as one after another opened new concentration camps – ravensbrück (1939), Auschwitz-Birkenau (1942), Mauthausen (1943) and Bergen-Belsen (1944).

But the hype around the post of matron was not observed, in conditions of shortage of workers in 1940 a decision was made about the forced recruitment of women to civic duty within the walls of concentration camps.

Two years later, authorities issued a special “Order to notify men and women about the problems of protection of the Reich”, which was formally assigned the duty of the fairer sex to participate in supervised activities.

Settings

To initially qualify to work in the security troops purebred German women younger than 17 and not older than 30 years, with a distinct external signs of belonging to a Nordic race, in other words white-skinned blue-eyed blonde.

Special attention was paid to good health, good training, political reliability and credibility of candidates, which is why the documents of soiskatelei consisted of questionnaires, photographs, medical certificates, extracts from the police station about the absence of administrative and criminal violations.

However, faced with staff shortages, the authorities have softened the selection parameters, opening the way in the matron informed the candidates do not meet all the requirements immediately.

Benefits

For the work in the retinue of the SS women received tangible benefits. Them free of charge was given undergarments and uniforms, were provided with service apartments and places for children in kindergarten.

Fascist government identified labor for jobs in concentration camps with army service. All nodemocracy was part of the SS units and received wages three times higher than the salary of a girl who served in auxiliary units of the army.

Moreover, with the diligent performance of duty, they could count on a premium brand and career growth.

Training

Before starting work, soiskatelei positions in the SS had to go through government funded short courses for her, from 1942 to 1945, organized in the ravensbrück concentration camp. Over the years of functioning of the training they have 3500 German women, who experienced supervisors to educate on the theoretical questions of the organization of the camps and practical basics of the treatment of prisoners.

Guided by the “educational process” requirements Theodor Eike, one of the ideologues of the establishment in Germany of the concentration camps, “teachers” taught to the trainees hatred and aversion to the “nedolyudyam-prisoners”, and strongly suppressed the in them compassion to human suffering, turning them into soulless killers and bloodthirsty rapists.

Sorry for the opinions, establishing with them familiarly relations, exactly as the disciplinary infraction was punishable from arrest until the shrink from the service of the SS.

Exam

To determine the psychological readiness of women to work in the concentration camp they arranged an exam in which they had to demonstrate their willingness to execute the cruel orders of his superiors and to receive true pleasure from the atrocities on people.

From the interrogation Protocol of the home guards of Ravensbrück Erica Bergmann became known that all the candidates for service in the SS mandatory wound up in a special room with a window through which they had impartially, and with better rapture, watch out for choking in the gas chamber prisoners. Those who, despite the horrors being perpetrated behind the glass, fainted, or suffered from bouts of nausea, was considered a bad disciple and passed this test as long as it did not cease to arouse their sympathy.

After that, dressed in uniform and received a firearm, a stick for whipping and whip, they went to unnatural feminine essence work in which some ladies of their sophisticated brutality surpassed even men.

Nurses SS

Part of the entourage of the SS were serving in the frontline, police and camp hospitals, nurses, implicitly carrying out orders of women doctors, whose affiliation to the security forces not yet fully defined.

Former concentration camp prisoner, Frida Klier in his collection of memories “Ravensbruck rabbits” describes how the medical personnel who save people, held over them monstrous research experiments, deliberately causing suffering and pain.

“Treating” patients in this camp Dr. Gerta Oberhauser experienced the helpless women the effectiveness of treatment of infected wounds sulfonamides. On the feet of laboratory of casualties inflicted a deep wound, lapped coming to her blood vessels and infected with its causative agents of gangrene, tetanus or Streptococcus. To simulate the effects of the wound received in battle, nurses, sprinkled it with dirt, wood chips and placed inside the broken glass and rusty nails. Until patients have experienced the terrible anguish, the doctors watched the action of the sulfonamides on the abscess.

Ravensbruck doctors mercilessly injection of his victims with morphine, conducted without anesthesia, transplantation of bone, experimented upon regeneration of nerve endings and muscles, and even tried to transplant organs.
