Scientists at Columbia University decided to find the relationship between month of birth and specific diseases. To do this, they analyzed data from 1.7 million patients treated from 1985 to 2013.
There is a definite trend among those born in late winter or early spring. Most often, these people have a problem with the heart.
So, people born in March, faced with the highest risk of atrial fibrillation, arrhythmias, heart failure and mitral valve prolapse. According to researchers, this may be due to seasonal fluctuations in vitamin D levels in the body.
ADHD is more common in those born closer to the end of the year (late November-December). In particular, such students need to make more effort to focus than their classmates born in other months.
But the risk of developing asthma is greatest for children born in July and October. But, say, in Denmark, may and August because in these months there is observed a similar activity of the sun.
Do not immediately try on yourself and your loved ones all this data. They are valid for people born in the United States, but there are no studies on other countries.
“Don’t worry too much about these results. Although we found pronounced regard, the overall risk of disease is not so great, says Dr. Tatonetti. – The risk associated with month of birth, is relatively small compared to more important factors such as diet and exercise”.
But the reason to think is still there. Knowing your potential weaknesses, you can prevent the development of a particular disease.
