The design of new Hyundai cars will decrease by 20%, and the annual development costs by 15%.
Hyundai Motor company introduced a new system of design evaluation using virtual reality (VR). First it will be estimated by experts R&D center of Hyundai in Namyang (South Korea).
A new VR system is based on three-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD), collected at each stage of the development process of the vehicle, and is able to ensure 100% accuracy of all operations. The technology uses several applications to development, allowing teams of designers and engineers to assess the quality of vehicle design and validation processes develop simultaneously. In the process of development of certain elements of the design will be able to participate two dozen specialists, whereas now not more than ten. This will reduce the time spent on the design of the new car by 20% and 15% of the annual costs of development.
With 36 sensors of the tracking movement, the system monitors the location and movement of all users, allowing each of them to perform necessary operations in real time. Each of them is armed with a VR headset, and knows exactly what everyone else is doing. It allows designers to more efficiently analyze multiple design concepts in the early stages of the process of developing, applying, including, and augmented reality technology (AR). The system simulates the design elements of the interior and exterior, lighting, colors and materials and even virtual environments.
