Previously, the statement of the President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika on the intention to announce his resignation came amid mass protests in the country against his fifth term in power.
In particular, several weeks continued large-scale protests. First, the participants spoke out against a proposed fifth presidential term 82-year-old Abdelaziz Bouteflika. Then the police began to disperse those present at the protest with rubber bullets, water cannons and tear gas. During the protests hundreds were injured.
