In 2016, there were 16.3 million people, situations which fall under the term “modern slavery”

The greatest number of people, who were forcefully kept in the region or were “modern slaves” in 2016 was recorded in Russia. This statement was issued by the Council of Europe on the occasion of the European day of countering violent retention of people (slavery), writes “UKRINFORM”.

“Forcibly preventing people quickly becomes a criminal distribution in Europe. This acquired form of modern slave trade, which spread in the world. The term “modern slavery” is increasingly used to determine a wide range of human rights violations, including sexual exploitation, forced labor, deductions for debt, domestic violence, trafficking and exploitation of children and forced marriage,” said the Council of Europe.

In the Council of Europe also noted that according to available statistics, in 2016 there were 16.3 million people, situations which fall under the term “modern slavery”. Among them, about 15 million were in Europe.
