In the Council of Europe stated that they can reach a compromise with Russia before the meeting of foreign Ministers in may 2019.

This was said by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe thorbjørn Jagland, reports TASS.

“This should be done before the meeting in Helsinki in may, which will bring together all the foreign Ministers. Space to find a solution there”, – said Jagland.

According to him, June of next year – the deadline for payment after which the Council of Europe will be forced to initiate the procedure of suspension of Russia’s membership in the statutory bodies of the organization.

We will remind, the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe refused to vote for a change of rules regarding the sanctions and Russia postponed the decision on this issue next year. This means that Russia will resume its participation in the organization until the end of 2018. In addition, the Secretary-General of the organization Thorbjorn Jagland has said that Russia could be expelled from the Council of Europe for nonpayment of dues.
