In Egypt in the Sahara desert, has launched a solar Park Benban. Its capacity is more than 1.5 GW, making it the largest in the world. The Park contains 6 million photovoltaic panels.
This information was published by the European Bank for reconstruction and development (EBRD), put up a video about SES on YouTube.
It is noted that the implementation of the project took 3 years. The EBRD has financed the construction of 16 of the 32 sections of the plant.
The solar power plant built near the town of Aus and occupies 37 square miles of the Sahara desert. Thanks to the power of 1.5 GW, the Park can provide electricity to more than a million homes.
Thus in a further solar Park plans to reach a capacity of 1.8 GW.
Previously, the largest SES in the world was Tenger Desert Park in China with a capacity of 1.54 GW.
Thanks to the new eco-friendly solar power plant Egypt will annually prevent 1.9 million tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Thus by 2020, the country plans to obtain 20% of energy from renewable sources.
