The government of Japan has approved the proposal to discuss the issue of renaming the sea of Japan with representatives of the DPRK and South Korea. About this newspaper the Sankei Shimbun.

Sankei Shimbun said that the issue of renaming the sea was raised by Pyongyang and Seoul in 1992 at the UN conference. Then the representatives of both countries stated that the name sea of Japan is the result of Japanese colonialism.
The Japanese government has long refused to rename the area, stating that this name was adopted by European cartographers in the NINETEENTH century.
