New asphalt Circuito de Jerez tried, tested and endorsed by: World Superbike tests ended in Andalusia with the times of the circle at the level of November’s results. And Jonathan ray again on the first position!
RACING.RU, 25 Jan 2019 – November 27 tests at Jerez has ended for most teams and drivers for a mark of 1:39.7. Ray was the only one who managed to get in 1:38.7, but Alex lowes was 2nd with a 1:39.377.
On the new asphalt as soon as the sun was able to warm up properly, the leader pulled a 1 second completed the test seven people on motorcycles Kawasaki, Yamaha and Ducati. The names of all the old and familiar. Of the newcomers, about whom we heard for the first time in 2018 moved from MotoGP to WSBK Alvaro Bautista and the new leader of the Puccetti Kawasaki, the young Turk Toprak Rahatlikla. Well, Leon Haslam returned to WSBK on a full season with the factory team of Kawasaki and, of course, immediately began to show, that this position is entrusted not just.
Thursday, the second day of testing in Jerez was a lot warmer than the first. The day temperature rose to 20 degrees, the sun was hot, and I have no desire to sit in the garage – has accelerated almost everything.
Kawasaki sets the pace
Jonathan ray and Leon to Haslam located at 1-3 positions in 0.35 seconds from each other. For ray 1:39.1 clearly not the limit of possibilities, as we know, but Haslam caught up to him since November, reducing the gap by half (if compared with the results of the latest tests in Jerez). A couple of pilots KRT, as in previous seasons, will work together, trying to take as many prizes. This tactic works fine when the plant is 1-2 strong opponent in the form of guys like Davis or Melandri: Jonathan ray is going to win, and the partner provides the situation when the closest competitor must not rise above a certain position. Be calculated in advance, the script helps to ensure the growth of the gap even if the team leader suddenly out of the game for any reason. Ray continues to be the fastest in the peleton, especially the new format of the World Superbike weekend with three races – and extra points – everything is at hand Kawasaki Racing Team, and therefore, the scenario is unlikely to change in 2019. Will change only main competitor.
Yamaha has taken a step forward
Immediately after starting the test in a strong position, four drivers supported by Yamaha – Alex lowes (leader of the first day of the tests), Mickey van der mark, Marco Melandri and Sandro Cortese firmly entrenched in the group of contenders for the podium and now poses a serious threat to pilots Ducati. Alex lowes completed a test on the 2nd place, losing to ray 0.2 seconds, three of his companions is from the 6th to the 8th. And all four are securely kept within a second from the reigning champion, who, it seems, is not yet in full force.
Bell for Ducati
Bau, however, noted that he finally managed “to go as he likes” in the saddle of the new Ducati Panigale V4R, so that by the end of Thursday, the Spaniard was confident in the framework of a 1:39.7-39.8, and completed the test at around 1:39.620. And this is a serious signal for chaza Davis, who failed to get out of 1:40 with a best time of 1:40.621. In the fall of Chaz at the same V4R drove your best lap in 1:39.852, losing Bau only 0.007. Alvaro – the only Ducati pilot, completed winter test in direct contact with the Kawasaki, while Rinaldi and Davis was at the tail end of the TOP 10, behind all the factory contenders. In order to resist Kawasaki, Ducati need at least two equal partners in the battle for every podium in the World Superbike and MotoGP today one man is not a warrior.
Toprak Rahatlikla, the only pilot satellites Kawasaki in world Cup, team Puccetti continues to delight with the results. He didn’t participate in November’s Jerez test, but had completed training in the TOP 5. Given two podiums in 2018 (in Argentina, 3rd place in the UK – 2nd place), it’s a decent 3rd pilot for Team Green. Disciple Kenan Sofuoglu still get the blood pumping factory opponents, including colleagues on the Kawasaki – he goes to their pace for more than six months!
BMW and Honda Althea rounded out the list as obvious recruits. Read more about the experiences of Sean Muir and Bevilacqua Genesio’s and their pilots can be read in a separate topic on the RACING.RU
The teams now pack up and bullets are flying in Portugal, at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao, where on 27 and 28 January will be the last tests before sending equipment to Australia.
