The situation in the black sea basin is very important for the security of the whole of Europe and means a lot of progress, said the Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze in the framework of the Munich security conference, writes UKRINFORM.
“We are fully focused on a peaceful solution to all problems, but the main problem is that Russia is trying to undermine this philosophy”, he added.
In addition, the Prime Minister of Georgia talked about the situation in their country and the danger of frozen conflicts and hybrid wars. So, Bakhtadze noted that the freezing of the conflict means no direct military confrontations, but the Russians are aggressive against Georgia.

What started the Russian-Georgian war started?
The armed conflict in 2008 between Georgia on one side and Russia and separatist groups in South Ossetia and Abkhazia on the other. The independence of Georgia was not satisfied with Moscow since the 90-ies. Therefore, it supported the separatists in South Ossetia and Abkhazia declared independence from Tbilisi. To resolve the conflict – imposed an agreement posted in the troubled regions of its military under the guise of peacekeepers. And then mass began handing out Russian passports there.
In the summer of 2008, when Georgia was actively thinking about joining NATO, South Ossetia became more frequent armed provocations. In particular, the shelling of Georgian villages. Russia sent more peacekeepers. In military operations against Georgia, in addition to the regular armed forces of South Ossetia and Russia, participated fighters from Russia and Abkhazia. After the occupation of Georgia by Russian troops and ethnic cleansing of Georgian villages around South Ossetia, with the participation of international mediators announced a ceasefire. Under the agreement, the withdrawal of Russian troops from Georgian territory was supposed to end before October 1, 2008.
