The leadership of the British brand is considering the release of affordable small crossover that could compete with the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
The management of the company Land Rover is considering developing a new compact crossover, which will take place in the line on the step below the model Defender of the new generation and will be able to compete, for example, with the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. This is with reference to its own source reports Which Car.
According to preliminary data, the small crossover will be built on a shortened version of the new aluminium platform, the underlying ordinary Defender. The car will receive a body type with five doors, and the external style would be borrowed from the standard “DEFA”. As previously reported, this crossover could receive the designation of Land Rover 80.
The range of engines will include a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-unit and two-liter “four”. As expected, the price of a small SUV will be around 25 thousand pounds.
Recall, Land Rover Defender new generation debuted in September last year at the Frankfurt motor show. Successor of the famous model, hold on the line for about 70 years, was left without a frame structure and a mechanical transmission.
Defender got the bearing body based on an aluminum monocoque and a fully independent suspension and permanent four-wheel drive. Clearance amounted to 291 mm. The SUV will be available in four versions: gasoline, hybrid and diesel two. Capacity – from 200 to 400 horsepower. All engines are paired with eight-speed “automatic” ZF dual band and transfer box.
In future versions of Defender will join the seven-seater variant with an elongated body, a luxury version, as well as extreme modification for serious off-road. From the production model with a body “pickup” the British decided to give up.
