The national Commission of regulation of communications and Informatization in 2020 will auction licenses for frequencies for 5G communication, it was stated by the Minister of infrastructure Vladimir Omelian, may 3, reports “Economic truth”.
“We had a meeting with the regulator. They see a great future technology [5G]. We hope, and it is their position that Ukraine next year will be able to sell the first license on the 5G. The plan of the regulator, and we strongly support,” – said the Minister.
In April Omeljan announced the launch in Ukraine of the pilot project “the Internet of things on the roads on the basis of the communication technologies of the fifth generation of 5G”. Its implementation will deal with Nokia and Vodafone Ukraine with the support of the Ministry of infrastructure.
In the framework of the project on 21-m kilometre of a highway of the Dnieper in Kiev will test the technology of the Internet of things on the road and collect statistical data using the LTE network. From the second half of 2019, the project will be implemented with the help of 5G.
5G – the fifth generation of communication, which operates based on telecommunications standards, following existing standards 4G/IMT-Advance.
29 June 2018 Finnish telecommunications company Elisa announced that the first in the world to launch a commercial network of the fifth generation. U.S. operator Verizon 1 October 2018 also announced the beginning of commercial operation of 5G network.
South Korea became the first country in the world that is completely covered by a network 5G.
