Russia did not support the proposal Zelensky about connecting to the channel format of the US and Britain
Foreign Minister of Germany Heiko Maas has urged Russia to free the 24 Ukrainian sailorstrapped in the Kerch Strait. He said this during the meeting with Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in königswinter near Bonn on 18 July, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to DW.
The head of the German foreign Ministry stressed that the conflict around Ukraine, “the time has come for constructive contributions from all parties,” and, “in Germany’s view, this includes the immediate release of Ukrainian sailors.”
According to Maas, the Ukrainian conflict, there are now “positive signals”, he expressed the hope that effective July 21, an indefinite ceasefire in the Donbas “will be observed, will be durable, and we will achieve progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements”.
The Minister added that in the past, agreement on ceasefire in the East of Ukraine too often have been inconclusive.
Lavrov, in turn, expressed the view that Ukraine’s new leadership, headed by President Vladimir Zelensky will seek to implement the Minsk agreements, but did not support the proposal Zelensky about connecting to the channel format of the USA and the UK.
“We believe that the format agreed upon. The format has a chance to move forward, and it is important not to disperse attention,” – said the head of the foreign Ministry.
