In 1990 the French introduced the truck Renault Magnum with an unusual cabin, a couple of years later a similar machine was made by the Belarusian MAZ. However in the latter case, all made only one prototype.
Long-haul tractor MAZ-5445, released in 1993, clearly established based on the “Magnum”: cabin with a flat floor separated from the chassis, vertically arranged lighting… Cabin, Minsk prototype made from fiberglass inside flat floor and more space in comparison with serial MAZ.
The pilot was demonstirovali tractor with semi-trailer, produced with the assistance of the German Kogel company – at that time the Belarusians planned to create a joint venture with this manufacturer of trailers.
On the technical side of MAZ-5445 was not much different on a normal Minsk tractors in those years: tutaevskoe turbo diesel V8 power of 380 HP, standard bridges and transmission.
Of course, to start the serial production of trucks with a new cabin needed serious investment, which the company was not. Prototype MAZ-5445, pokrasovatsya on several occasions, placed on the outskirts of the territory of the factory…
But the story was over. In the beginning of zero years some Moscow tuning company purchased a tractor MAZ-5445, replaced experimental fiberglass cab on standard metal and put the truck for sale. However the stated price is a unique instance was at least one and a half times higher than that of serial trucks MAZ. However, the tractor has found a new host and for some years carried loads in Russia.
Traces of unusual MAZ lost in the Altai Region, most likely from the machine’s nothing left… And Renault has completed the release of “Magnum” in 2013, the successor to this model did not appeared.
