According to the Agency Nikkei Asian Review, the Mazda is going to take a break for a few years and wait not only the release of new products but also upgrading the current ones. It is necessary for the automaker to prepare for a very large-scale renewal of the model line, which provides a new strategy for the development of the brand in the near future.
According to the plans, which became known after the publication of the investor report to Mazda, the brand intends by 2023 to create a new RWD platform and a pair of 6-cylinder engines – both gasoline and diesel, and even hybrid system.
Under the assumptions, the emergence of the Japanese brand’s larger, more modern machines based on a new architecture with the “sixes” will give the opportunity to go into the category of luxury brands and compete, at least Lexus and Infiniti, and in the future – even the German “big three”. But the implementation of this ambitious strategy will need large resources, for this reason the Japanese company has decided to focus on the future instead of spending time and money on existing model line.
