BMW and Daimler announced the creation of the joint venture, which will compete with companies like Uber. The investments amount to 1 billion euros, and shares in the new company will be shared equally – 50%.
In particular, the new company will enter the car-sharing service from Daimler – Car2Go, as well as the Bavarian services, DriveNow, ParkNow and ChargeNow. In the end there are just five services: Share Now (car sharing), Free Now (call driver), the Park Now (find Parking), Charge Now (charging electric vehicles) and Reach Now (navigation and routing).
According to the head of BMW Harald Krueger, these five services will increasingly come together to form a single portfolio of mobility services with a fully electric, Autonomous vehicles. Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche, in turn, noted that creating an intelligent network of joint ventures, the company will be able to shape current and future urban mobility and to derive maximum benefit from the opportunities presented by digitization.
