Metropolitan Orthodox Church of Ukraine Oleksandr drabinko filed a lawsuit in Pechersk court of Kiev against the Primate of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate Onuphrius on the protection of honor, dignity and business reputation and demanding compensation for moral damages, reported the press service of Pereyaslav-Vishnevskaya diocese.
The reason for the suit was the statement of the Holy Synod of the UOC-MP to the President of Petro Poroshenko, published on 14 November 2016. In it the father calls the society “a source of information dirt”, which, through the media of “spreading unsubstantiated rumors and slander” against the Metropolitan Vladimir.
“Because the appeal of the Holy Synod negatively mentioned my name, immediately after the publication of the appeal I addressed an open letter to Metropolitan Onufry and the entire episcopate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, in which he pointed to the groundlessness of the charges and their fictional, defamatory nature,” – said the Metropolitan of ptsu.
According to the Metropolitan, he never received a reply to his letter to the UOC-MP, therefore, decided to sue.
On may 22, Kyiv Pechersk court opened the proceedings and appointed a preparatory hearing on 29 may at 15.00.
To create ptsu society was a Bishop of the UOC-MP. After creating a single local Ukrainian Church, he was one of two bishops of the Moscow Patriarchate, joined the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
The appeal of the open letter to Poroshenko was due to a case of illegal deprivation of liberty society – assistant to the late Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, Vladimir. According to investigators, thus in 2013, former President Viktor Yanukovych tried to put pressure on Vladimir and force him to resign, and then appoint more loyal to the government, the head of the UOC-MP.
In the case of the illegal deprivation of liberty society is also an MP from the Opposition bloc Vadim Novinsky. In December 2016 the Verkhovna Rada has allowed to attract Novinsky criminally responsible in the submission of the Prosecutor General stated that the Deputy is suspected of abuse of office. Novinsky called the case “politically motivated”.
