The Parliament of Montenegro adopted the law, which recognises the partnership of persons of the same sex and equating these to heterosexual couples.
“The adoption of the law on partnership of persons of the same sex voted 42 deputies of the Montenegrin Parliament with minimum necessary number of votes to 41”, – stated in the message.
Among other the document was supported by representatives of the ruling Democratic party of socialists.
Own position on this issue was expressed by the President of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic, who welcomed the law, calling it progressive.
The joy about this event was expressed by the LGBT community of the country, the U.S. Ambassador Judy rising Reinke’s and the number of non-governmental organizations.
The law allows same-sex couples to enjoy the same rights as heterosexual, but without the possibility of adoption of children.
The paper was discussed by Parliament last year but not got enough votes.
