Ukraine intends to file a lawsuit against Gazprom for violating EU legislation in the field of competition
“We are determined to attract Gazprom to responsibility for violation of competition rules in the European market, the claim will be submitted in late April 2019,” – said Vitrenko during a conference about the future of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, which took place in Brussels.
According to the representative of the Naftogaz, in addition to the fight against Gazprom in the Stockholm arbitration, Ukraine begins to deal with the gas monopoly in Europe.
“European competition laws will provide the basis for the claim against Russia, for the benefit of European consumers and to the Ukrainian state. It is necessary to ensure a future for the GTS of Ukraine and European energy security”, – he stressed.
Vitrenko convinced if this year will complete the construction of the “Nord stream – 2”, this would have heavy political and economic consequences for all of Europe. Gazprom will be able to strengthen its monopoly position in the European gas market, prompting the European side to play by the rules of Gazprom and to adapt the European legislation with its requirements, without exception. This will lead to an increase in the cost of gas for European consumers.
“There are probably in Europe, talented politicians who will find any reason, accused Ukraine of the fact that something wrong was done… But in 2020, likely we will not see a single transit through Ukraine, in return, will be undermining the European energy security,” – said the head.
He noted, compliance with the European legislation for Ukraine remains the main “line of defence” against the tyranny of Gazprom, which is trying to impose on Ukraine and Europe, their “concepts” on which the law of force dominates the force of law.
“Unfortunately, many people in Europe still believe that Russia is a strategic energy partner. If Gazprom to impose its will, it will lead to problems with stability in Europe. It is a reality that we’re facing,” – said the Executive Director. We will remind, on February 28, 2018 the Stockholm arbitration court has satisfied claim NAK “Naftogaz Ukraine” on the compensation for undelivered Russia’s Gazprom gas volumes for transit. Arbitration awarded in favor of “Naftogaz” $ 4,63 billion By the end of two arbitration disputes between companies on the supply and transit of gas, Gazprom is obliged to pay $ 2.56 billion Gazprom has reserved $ 4.7 billion for the penalty of the Stockholm arbitration.
