NASA has officially unveiled two new kinds of spacesuits designed for missions to the moon and Mars and landing on their surfaces. The suits have become an improved version of the costumes worn during missions Apollo (the moon landing).
As evidenced by the official NASA Instagram page, presented two types of suits: OCSS (Orion Crew Survival System), which the astronauts will wear during the flight and work on a space ship, and xEMU (Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit).
Second created to work on the surface of the moon or Mars.
By the way, the suits developed for the mission “Apollo” is still used for EVAs from the ISS.
The uniform is suitable for traveling to the moon and Mars
Details of the new mission. The mission for the flight to the moon has the name Artemis. Now planning the launch of the first spacecraft in 2022. NASA has already signed a contract with Lockheed Martin for the production and operation of the spacecraft Orion for this mission.
I wonder what project Orion was designed for long space flights. It needs to deliver astronauts to the moon and will eventually send people to Mars.
